Celebration Time Come On...Jewish Feasts of the Bible

During the prophetic word last Sunday we heard about three major festivals of God's chosen people, the Israelites. First, The Passover which celebrates the death Angel passing over the the homes of the Israelites in Egypt when as instructed by Moses they put the blood of lambs over their doorposts. Thank God for the blood. And, Pentecost, which commemorates the coming and indwelling of the Holy Spirit as it rested on the Apostles and other disciples empowering them to be bold witnesses of Jesus. Finally, The Feast of Tabernacles, a time of joyous celebration as the Israelites celebrated God’s continued provision for them in the current harvest and remembered His provision and protection during the 40 years in the wilderness.

During our weekly Tuesday Morning Word at 7 AM on Zoom this week we talked about The Feast of The Tabernacles. And this Tuesday we will be talking about Passover. Speaking of which, you are welcomed to join our weekly Tuesday Morning bible study by visiting us at whatafellowship.org and clicking the link marked Tuesday Morning Word. Well, by now perhaps you may be asking what is so important about these Jewish observances? Seeing that we are both Christians and Americans. Well, for us, there are three reasons. 1. Though there are twelve feast mentioned in Leviticus 23...these three feasts are mentioned in several places in the Bible and were prophetic of future events. 2. The Israelites were instructed to observe these three feasts each year by physically going to “appear before the Lord with sacrifices and offerings. (Deuteronomy 16:16). Finally, we agree with the words in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, corrrection, and for training in righteousness.

As we take a closer look at the Hebrew calendar....we are currently in the month of Tishrei. What's significant about this month is Rosh Hashanah, The Jewish New Year falls on the first day of the month of Tishrei. And, on this 22nd day of Tishrei the daily devotion is the 124-130th psalms. For the sake of time lets look at the 128th Psalms which is a song of ascents.

A song of ascents.

Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to him. 2 You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours. 3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table. 4 Yes, this will be the blessing for the man who fears the Lord. 5 May the Lord bless you from Zion; may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life, 6 May you live to see your children’s children— peace be on Israel.

King David, who wrote over half the Psalms, was himself a gifted musician and singer (1 Samuel 16:15-19; 2 Samuel 22) and constantly worshiped God with dance and song (2 Samuel 6:14). Not only did the Songs of Ascent encourage Israelites on their physical journey towards Jerusalem; the songs further expressed the yearning for salvation through the coming messiah and future peace and prosperity in Jerusalem.

Soon this day let's sing a new song to The Lord.

Be encouraged today. You may not be able to sing at Carnegie Hall in New York City, but because of Christ you can sing when others can't sing. You can sing in the midnight hour. You can sing in the midst of a storm. You can sing during an economic downturn. For the Bible says " the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. Enter into His gates with Thanksgiving and into His courts with praise. Let every thing that has breathe PRAISE YE THE LORD! We pray you are encouraged to make a joyful noise to the Lord. God Bless!
